Friend or Surveilance?

I get a lot of friend requests from people that I don’t know. They appear to be friends of friends of friends and I have to wonder why they’re reaching out to me.

I look at some of their pages and there are things on them that I just can’t endorse. There was a time when I accepted requests from anyone and everyone that sent them. I thought it made me look more popular and I craved numbers. I like to think that I’ve matured. The truth is I’ve just become more cautious.

It’s not as if I believe the Russians are trying to hack my page; I’m certainly not that important. However, I am aware that there are people who are just nosy. People who want to know what I’m up to, what I’m doing, what I’m thinking. You may not think very highly of yourself but don’t be fooled; there are people checking up on you and wondering what you’re doing as well. Not every friend request is truly that; some folks are just doing surveillance.

You don’t have to be someone famous to have paparazzi and spies in your life. We all have haters as unfortunate as it is, especially if you follow Jesus. In fact, if you’re a believer that’s one thing you can count on and it means you’re doing something right.

Long ago, I had someone ask me, “Do they know your name in hell?” My answer – “I certainly hope so!” There’s no better way to know that I am witnessing the way I’m supposed to than to be a threat to the enemy, and if I’m a threat to the enemy, I will certainly be talked about on earth and below.

Be careful who you allow into your life via social media and in the flesh. And if you find that you’re getting a lot of requests, ask yourself why. Don’t be a people collector, be soul collector, all for the cause of Christ.
