Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Difference in Coaching and Counseling?

Counseling looks back and helps you understand how you got to where you are and why. You must very slowly process the past before you can begin to understand today and plan for tomorrow. Coaching starts where you are now and determines where you want to go next; we create a road map together and begin the work of forward motion.

What Hours Are You Available?

Hours are by appointment on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00am-1:00pm to accommodate most lunch hours and the same evenings from 5:00pm-8:00pm (last session begins at 7:00pm).

What Forms of Payment Do You Accept?

I accept all major credit cards and debit cards. If you are a new client, you will pay for your consultation and first session at the time of booking. After that, all sessions will be charged 24-hours in advance in order to hold your requested appointment time as there may be a wait list. I do NOT invoice partners or third parties for payments after services have been rendered. I use a secure HIPAA compliant platform to accept payments prior to sessions so that we can focus on issues rather than money. This helps to keep my fees low so that more people can afford them.

What Are Virtual Sessions?

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, or schedule another session within 24-hours, you are expected to provide this office with 24-hours notice to cancel beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged the full rate for the session. If you have a Monday appointment, the same 24-hour notice applies as I only see clients four evenings per week. Sessions are scheduled at your convenience and, without proper notice, that time cannot be given to another partner who may have to wait longer for an open appointment.

Why Self Pay?

Self pay sessions allow you to see a counselor/coach without being limited to a set number of visits or being assigned a diagnosis. Most insurance plans don't cover marriage or couples counseling unless one partner has a diagnosis.

Christian counseling is often not covered by insurance without a diagnosis at all. I believe labels belong on clothing, not people. Self pay gives you more choice in who you see, how often, and in the length of your sessions.

While the usual session length is 50 minutes, you may have longer sessions for the appropriate fee.

In order to make sessions available to coaching clients living throughout the states of North/South Carolina and Virginia (and occasionally elsewhere upon request), I provide telehealth sessions using a HIPAA compliant platform. This requires a computer or phone with a camera and microphone and an area with privacy. This enables partners to schedule sessions at their convenience without having to drive to and from an office location that may be difficult to reach. You can complete necessary forms, securely message me, and meet with me all on the same platform.

Are You Reachable Between Appointments ?

Clients do sometimes call and/or text me between sessions for brief updates or with questions. In the event that serious boundary issues should arise, we will work together to find  solutions such as more frequent (billable) video or phone sessions, alternative crisis lines, local support groups, etc.
