Loneliness vs. Freedom

There comes a time in our lives when we have to make a decision to turn down the volume on the outside noise. To deliberately drown out the chaos that exists outside of our own heads and retreat to that quiet space inside where the still small voice of God can whisper loudly. That sounds like an oxymoron, but once you make that choice, it becomes as plain as the nose on your face.

We spend so much time existing to please others that we lose sight of ourselves and forget who we are at our very core. We digress from our true north and wander aimlessly through life storming heaven in prayer for a breakthrough.

Once we realize we’ve been playing to the wrong audience and purpose in our hearts to live for Him alone, everything else falls effortlessly into place. We no longer struggle to fit in because we learn to cherish our solitude as He meets us there. The elders used to say, “You can do bad all by yourself.” They were right; but focus on Him and you can never go wrong. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

To the world may we appear aloof and lonely, perhaps even slightly mad. They thought the same of our Lord and His disciples. We have simply learned the secret of true contentment at long last. This world can only offer that which is fleeting; our joy in Him is everlasting. Guard it and your heart above all else. Become a prisoner to the cause of Christ and you will be free at last.
