Lay Your Burdens Down

There are days when I feel as if the burdens I’m carrying weigh more than I do. I feel absolutely exhausted from trying to figure out which way to turn, who to talk to about which situation, what to do regarding certain issues (take your pick from a long list), and how to prioritize all the looming deadlines. My head hurts simply from overthinking; my back and neck hurt from the tension of trying to function without losing it; and my heart is beating overtime. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Women tend to be good at multitasking but a steady diet of this is just too much. You can cave from this kind of stress. We were never intended to carry weight of this kind. We usually start out with one or two small issues and find a way to manage them. Before we know it, a few more pop up and we’re managing four. Then another few rear their heads and we find we’re juggling half a dozen.

After we’ve done it long enough, we stop noticing the weight of the older problems as we attempt to accommodate all the newer ones that arise. Being burnt out doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a slow process. In fact, it happens at such a slow and steady pace, we often don’t notice that it’s happening until we completely crash.

If we will release our burdens to God,one by one or all at once, He’ll gladly take them from us. Sometimes we may not even realize how burdened we’ve been until we finally let go of our problems and feel the weight of them lifted from our shoulders. The freedom we experience just being able to sit up straight and unencumbered can be startling at first. You see, we’ve grown so accustomed to the weight that we’ve learned to ignore it. How dangerous that can be!

He invites us to cast our cares upon Him; and why does He issue that invitation? Because He cares for us. You’ll receive many invitations in your life but I doubt any will be as life changing and significant as this. If life’s issues are pressing in on you from all sides, I encourage you to take Him up on it today. Lay your burdens down in exchange for His easy yoke. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
