Don't Get Triggered

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over yet expecting a different result. If you have experienced a trauma of any type, and keep in mind that trauma is in the eye of the beholder, not to take it lightly, what might trip one person up might roll off another persons back like water off a ducks back. We all have different levels of resiliency and process things differently.

Until you can identify your triggers - those things - be they sights, sounds, scents, etc.- that will bring memories of the traumatic event back to you and return you to that unsettling place, you are vulnerable.

Working with a counselor who has some background in mental health and trauma and helping people work through identifying their triggers and developing plans to prepare for managing them can be extremely proactive. Why let life happen to you? You can learn to create a future and develop a recovery plan that allows you to move forward at your own pace. Forward motion is forward progress!
